The Lanka Powerboat Association (LPA) is a non-profitable, national governing body for powerboating and jet skiing in Sri Lanka and works under the international governing body Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM).
Established in 1922, the Union International Motonautique (UIM) is the world governing body for all power boating activities. It is fully recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and is a member of the Association of the IOC Recognized International Sports Federations (ARISF) and of Sport Accord.
The UIM has 59 affiliated National Federations. As the Internationally recognized authority for world power boating, the UIM is charged with protecting and building the future of the sport on behalf of its national federations and competitors and is responsible for creating a safe, accessible, unified and thriving world renowned sport.
UIM showcases many genre of racing disciplines including: -
- Circuit ( F1, F2, F500, F4, Formula Future, etc.)
- Offshore ( XCAT, Class 1, etc.)
- Pleasure Navigation
- Radio-controlled boats
- Aquabike ( Jet ski)
- Solar & Electric
- MotoSurf
The LPA was launched at Cinnamon Lakeside in 2012 and has become synonymous with international standard powerboat training and events, with a varied calendar of powerboating events.
The Lanka Powerboat Association, currently based at Cinnamon Lakeside, which will train the staff and make sure the safety and operation is to an international standard.
Power-based watersports are becoming increasingly more popular and this unique center will provide much needed training and education.
